ARCS Light Award Recipients

2025-2026 San Diego ARCS Light Recipient:
Laurie Roeder

Laurie joined ARCS in 2014 and has served our chapter in numerous leadership and committee roles, either as vice president, director, or committee member. These include Field Trips, Nominating, Scientist of the Year, New Members, Policies & Procedures, Meetings & Special Events and most recently, Vice President of Membership, for three consecutive years.

In that role, Laurie was our chief cheerleader, greeter, consoler, and connector. She organized phone trees to encourage participation in meetings, field trips, celebrations, and membership renewals. She believed deeply in recognizing milestones in our members’ lives and often closed Zoom meetings by wishing someone a happy birthday. She understood the importance of keeping our Policies and Procedures current and aligned with other governing documents and graciously supported Kathe Albrecht in this endeavor. She also appreciated the power of photographs in preserving our chapter’s history, often recruiting her husband Mike, or stepping in herself, to document our events.

Laurie has also taken on numerous key responsibilities for our Scientist of the Year celebrations, including managing check-in, distributing badges, reserving seating for major sponsors, and creating donor recognition displays. But above all, Laurie devoted herself to connecting with our members and ensuring that everyone felt welcomed, supported, and valued. For this, we are deeply grateful.
